"Landslide isolates 18 villages in Odisha; IMD predicts more rain to come."
Amid heavy rain, there have been reports of landslides in Malkangiri, as well as in Koraput's Lamataput and Nandapur areas, which have affected vehicular movement.
The heavy rains in Odisha's Malkangiri district caused a major landslide near Tumba Padar village, cutting off 18 neighboring villages from the rest of the state. This occurred on July 27, affecting the Bayapadar ghat road at Nakamamudi gram panchayat. The area experienced heavy rainfall, leading to landslides and obstructing vehicular movement in Malkangiri, Koraput's Lamataput and Nandapur areas.
The Special Relief Commissioner's (SRC) office confirmed the landslide and reported that road clearance work is underway to restore traffic movement. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted heavy rain in Odisha till July 31 due to a well-marked low-pressure system over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha.
The IMD also issued warnings of squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph over the Bay of Bengal on Sunday and advised fishermen not to venture into the rough sea. Additionally, heavy rainfall is expected in several districts, including Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Bolangir, and others till August 1.
