Bhubaneswar: While the entire western region continued to sizzle in a scorching heatwave, humid conditions made life miserable in the state's coastal region.
As the sweltering heatwave continued, Jharsuguda and Sambalpur, both in western Odisha, reached 43.2 degrees Celsius by 2.30 p.m. on Sunday. Hirakud came in second, with a temperature of 42.4 degrees Celsius.
By 2.30 p.m., the temperature in the state capital of Bhubaneswar had reached 41.8 degrees Celsius.
The maximum temperature in Chandbali was 39.2 degrees Celsius, 39 degrees in Keonjhar, 36.8 degrees in Puri, and 36.2 degrees in Balasore.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted on Sunday that maximum temperatures will be 4-6 degrees Celsius above normal in a few places across Odisha over the next three days.
As a result, hot and uncomfortable weather is expected to prevail over the next three days, it said, advising people to take precautionary measures such as avoiding heat exposure, staying cool, and avoiding dehydration while going outside between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The current meteorological conditions indicate that there will be no significant change in maximum temperature (day temperature) over the next three days, followed by a slight fall over the districts of Odisha.
The MeT office issued an orange warning for Sunday, stating that heat wave to severe heat wave conditions are very likely in one or two locations across the districts of Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Sambalpur, Balangir, Kandhamal, and Keonjhar.
Some districts in Sundargarh, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nayagarh, Mayurbhanj, Angul, and Deogarh have received a yellow warning.
Similarly, an orange heat warning and severe heat wave were issued for Monday in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Kalahandi, and Keonjhar districts.
A yellow warning has been issued for parts of the districts of Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Nuapada, and Mayurbhanj.
The MeT office has also issued an orange warning for Tuesday in some areas of Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, and Boudh districts where a heat wave or severe heat wave is expected.
Parts of Balangir, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Kalahandi have received a yellow warning.
