Bhubaneswar: Four people who recently arrived in Odisha from 'at risk' countries tested positive for COVID-19, and their samples were sent for genome sequencing, according to Public Health Director Niranjan Mishra.
He went on to say that as until the evening of December 7, Odisha had welcomed 982 foreign returns.
The senior health official assuaged fears about 'untraceable' returnees by saying that efforts are being made to contact them. "A couple of them didn't answer our phone calls. "Health professionals have been told to go door-to-door to track down the returns," he said.
The Health Department previously stated that 40% of the 800 foreign returnees from at-risk countries such as the United Kingdom, South Africa, Brazil, Botswana, China, Zimbabwe, Mauritius, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Israel who arrived in the state since November 26 have yet to be traced, raising concerns about the possible spread of Omicron in the state.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has also warned that unless sufficient steps are taken, the country will be hit by a big third wave.
Professor Manindra Agarwal of IIT-Kanpur predicted that the third wave of coronavirus infections will peak in India between January and February 2022, with up to 1.5 lakh cases per day. The new outbreak, on the other hand, is predicted to be milder, he said.
There have been cases in five Indian states so far: Maharashtra (ten), Karnataka (two), Rajasthan (nine), Gujarat (one), and Delhi (one).
Mishra, on the other hand, claims that the administration has learned a lot from the first and second waves and is prepared to deal with any situation that arises.
