Bhubaneswar: In the wake of reports that a new wave of COVID has claimed its first victim in Odisha this year, Public Health Director Niranjan Mishra urged people to seek treatment as soon as symptoms appear.

"Although active cases have increased, the infection rate has remained stable." Twelve of the 629 active cases have been hospitalized. We are adhering to the fundamental principle of testing, tracking, and treatment. Those experiencing symptoms should undergo a COVID test, adhere to the necessary home isolation guidelines, and seek immediate medical attention if their condition worsens," he added.

He also stated that a massive mock drill is being conducted at all hospitals in Odisha to assess readiness.

Odisha logged 102 new cases in the last 24 hours, according to data from the Union Health Ministry updated at 8 a.m. on April 10, while 29 were cured or discharged.

Meanwhile, Sundargarh reported the first COVID death in five months, with a 50-year-old man succumbing to the virus in a COVID hospital. According to the TNIE, the state health department has yet to confirm the death.

In the last 24 hours, India has recorded 5,880 new cases and 14 deaths. A two-day nationwide drill is planned for Monday to review emergency preparedness in both public and private hospitals, with the XBB1.16 sub-variant causing the surge in infections.

As a precautionary measure, Haryana and Puducherry have made the use of face masks in public places mandatory.
