Puri: Five people were arrested on Friday for allegedly assaulting four servants of the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha.

On Wednesday night, a group of over ten armed miscreants launched an organized attack on the servants.
Police identified the accused as Rajesh Mohapatra of Puri's Basoli Sahi, Santosh Kumar Mohanty of Pana Priya Lane, Nirmal Kumar Pradhan of Thanapati Nagar, Sujit Kumar Mohanty of Hatishala, and Srikant Kumar Parbat of Cuttack's Narasinghpur.

Following the incident, the Puri SP formed a three-person team to apprehend the suspect. "On Friday, the accused were attempting to flee Puri Town when police personnel overpowered them," Puri Town IIC Gokula Ranjan Das said, adding that three swords, three bikes, and five cell phones were seized from their possession.

According to sources, the incident occurred late Wednesday night in the Gudia Sahi area, which is under the jurisdiction of the Puri Town police station, as the servitors were returning home from a feast at Shankareshwar Peeth.

The attack injured Sevayats Madhusudan Patri, Kashinath Pratihari, Batakrushna Mohapatra, and Rajan Pujapanda.
