Balasore: On Wednesday, a group of armed robbers allegedly looted more than Rs 30 lakh and a large amount of gold ornaments from a Union Bank branch in Chandaneswar, Odisha's Balasore district.

According to sources, the incident occurred after eight miscreants entered the bank posing as customers in the afternoon to commit the daring robbery.

Soon after entering the bank, the robbers allegedly displayed pistols and locked the branch's employees in a room.

According to preliminary reports, the gang members looted the cash and gold ornaments after terrorizing those inside the bank with guns before fleeing.

Police rushed to the scene after receiving information. They rescued the bank employees by opening the locker room and launched an investigation.

Senior police officers from Jaleswar and Chandaneswar arrived at the bank to monitor the investigation into the incident. It is suspected that the robbers fled to West Bengal after committing the crime. More information is being sought.
