Bhubaneswar: Off the coast of Sumatra, a cyclonic circulation exists across the Southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjacent equatorial Indian Ocean. A low-pressure system is expected to emerge over the same region around November 9 as a result of its effect, the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Department tweeted on Saturday.
During the next 48 hours, it is expected to become more noticeable and proceed westnorthwestwards towards the north Tamil Nadu coast, according to the forecast.
"A depression is predicted to form over southwest BoB and adjoining north Sri Lanka around November 11," the IMD warned in an earlier bulletin, "with additional strengthening and movement towards the north Tamil Nadu coast during the subsequent 24 hours, followed by weakening."
Heavy rain is expected in isolated areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal during the next five days, as well as in Kerala and Maharashtra on November 8, and coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on November 8-9, according to the Met Office.
On November 11 and 13, rain is also expected in coastal locations, including Bhubaneswar and Puri.
The Global Forecast System (GFS) model had forecast that the low pressure system that is expected to emerge on November 9 will pass along Andhra Pradesh's coast.
During the following 24 hours, the low-pressure area over the Southeast Arabian Sea and the adjacent Lakshadweep area is expected to become a well-marked low-pressure area and develop into a depression over the same region, according to the IMD. It is then expected to proceed west-northwestward away from India's west coast, according to the report.
