Dhenkanal: On Saturday, two people were reportedly trampled to death by a wild elephant in the Parjang area of Odisha's Dhenkanal district.

Alekh Nayak of Khalapal and Bari Nayak of nearby Gandataila village were identified as the deceased. The incidents occurred in the Mahabiroad forest range, which is part of the Dhenkanal division.

According to sources, Alekh Nayak went to a nearby field in the early hours of the morning when he was attacked and killed by the wild pachyderm.

As a result, the elephant attacked Bari Nayak when she went to her house's backyard early in the morning. She couldn't see the jumbo because dense fog had engulfed the area.

The incidents have caused panic among the villagers in the area where jumbo attacks have been common. Because elephants are frequently seen in the area, the villagers said they had urged forest officials to take precautions to keep the animals at bay.

Following notification, forest department officials went to the locations and recovered the bodies. Efforts are also being made to track the elephant's movements.

It should be noted that an elephant trampled four people to death earlier this month in Angul.
