Another accused in Patia gang rape case arrested

Bhubaneswar: On Saturday, three days after the main suspect was apprehended in connection with the alleged rape of two minor girls at Patia railway station in Odisha's capital, another person was apprehended in Banki's Padanpur in Cuttack district.

Bulu Mallick has been identified as the second accused.

According to sources, Bulu was attempting to flee the city near the Chandaka area when the Government Railway Police (GRP) apprehended him after receiving a tip. He had also turned off his cellphone to prevent police from tracking him down. He is being transported to court.

Krushna Mallick (23), alias Kanha, was previously arrested a day after two minors, aged 12 and 14, were allegedly kidnapped by the two when the girls went to the railway station in the evening.

The two accused youths allegedly led them to the railway overpass, tied them up with a rope, and raped them all night.

The accused also allegedly threatened them with dire consequences if they told others about the incident. However, the matter was brought to light when the girls returned home the next morning and informed their family members.

After being informed, Childline reported the incident to Infocity Police, and police and Childline teams went to the crime scene with the victims. Later, one of the girls' mothers filed a FIR at the government railway police station. The minor girls' statements were also recorded.
