Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted heavy rainfall in various districts of Odisha for two days starting on September 28 due to a cyclonic circulation developing over the west-central Bay of Bengal.

On September 28, there is a very good chance that heavy rain may fall in one or two locations in the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Malkangiri, and Koraput. Over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Boudh during this time, a yellow warning for thunderstorms with lightning has been heard. 

Some areas of Gajapati, Rayagada, and Koraput are anticipated to see significant rainfall during the course of the next 24 hours. Another one or two locations in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Mayurbhanj are also expected to have thunderstorms with lightning.

Additionally, a thunderstorm notice was issued for several areas on September 26 and 27, and mild to moderate rain is expected through September 30.

Notably, the India Meteorological Department (IMD"North )'s Indian Ocean Extended Range Outlook for Cyclogenesis" forecasted the development of cyclonic circulations over the north Bay of Bengal during the middle of week 1 (September 23 to 29) and over the central Bay of Bengal during the middle of week 2. (September 30 to October 6).
