Opposition Leader participates in the Monsoon Session via videoconference
Bhubaneswar: Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Pradipta Naik attended the monsoon session via video conferencing after Assembly Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro directed rigorous implementation of COVID norms for MLAs and Assembly personnel to attend House proceedings.
The Speaker had made it essential for all MLAs and Assembly personnel to take an RT-PCR test before to the session, so that those who tested negative could attend. For this reason, a camp has been put up on the Assembly grounds. Two of the test samples were determined to be contaminated on Sunday.
BJP member Naik, who has been having treatment for post-COVID problems, joined the session through video conference from the AIIMS guesthouse in Bhubaneswar, as directed by the Speaker.
As a token of respect for former minister Bijayshree Routray and other senior politicians, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik moved a condolence resolution in the House through video conference at the start of the day's session.
From the hospital, Naik lent his support to the move. “I haven’t recovered fully but my priority will always be to sincerely carry out the responsibilities people have bestowed upon me; I will attend the Assembly session virtually from the hospital and draw the attention of the Odisha government towards all issues of the public,” he later tweeted.
