Bhubaneswar: Naveen Patnaik, the chief minister of Odisha, sent Jagdeep Dhankhar his warmest congratulations on becoming India's next vice president.
“Congratulate Shri @jdhankhar1 ji on being elected as the 14th #VicePresidentOfIndia. I am sure the Upper House shall function as true custodian of democratic values and principles enshrined in the Constitution under your leadership. Wish you a successful and fulfilling tenure,” Naveen said on Twitter.
Jagdeep Dhankhar, a former governor of West Bengal, was chosen as India's new vice president on Saturday. Against Margaret Alva, the opponent, who received 182 votes, he received 528 votes.
According to Lok Sabha Secretary General Utpal Kumar Singh, who presided over the 16th Vice Presidential election, 725 of the 780 eligible MPs cast ballots. 710 votes were legitimate, while 15 votes were ruled to be invalid.
Today's voting for the next vice president started at 10 am and ended at 5 pm. After six o'clock, the voting process started.
