Koraput: One of the three people accused of killing an elderly man by beating him to death in Uparakutinga village, Laxmipur block, Koraput district, Odisha, has been apprehended by police.
Kursha Maniaka was recognised as the deceased.
On Friday, a video of the man being beaten while being tied to a pole by the family went viral.
Sources claim that Maniaka and his family members got into a violent quarrel over him breaking the asbestos sheets in his son's residence. Later, when things got out of hand, members of Maniaka's family, including his brother, son, and daughter-in-law, tied him to an electrical pole and beat him with sticks.
Maniaka passed away instantly. With the assistance of other villagers, the accused later incinerated the body.
One individual was apprehended after a police raid on the village, but efforts are still being made to find the other two suspected fleeing, according to the sources.
