Jharsuguda: Odisha Home Minister Naba Das, who died hours after being shot at by a cop the night before, was cremated with full state honours on Monday at Kherual in Jharsuguda.

Vishal Das, his son, lit the funeral pyre.

He was given a guard of honour before his cremation.

Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari, Agriculture Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain, Transport Minister Tukuni Sahu, Food Supplies Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, Higher Education Minister Rohit Pujari, Textiles and Handicrafts Minister Rita Sahoo, MLA Dibya Shankar Mishra, former Sundargarh MLA Jogesh Singh, and many other leaders from various parties attended the funeral.

Former Chief Secretary AP Padhee and 5T Secretary VK Pandian were also present.

Following his death on Sunday evening in a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, his body was carried in procession to the Odisha Assembly, where many party leaders paid their respects to the departed soul. Governor Ganeshi Lal and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik paid tribute to the three-term MLA this morning at this official residence in Bhubaneswar.

After that, the body was flown to Jharsuguda in the afternoon. Thousands of his supporters and well-wishers gathered during the procession of the departed leader to Manmohan school field and finally to Kherual, where he was cremated.

As a mark of respect for the deceased leader, the Odisha government has declared a three-day state mourning beginning January 29.
