Bhubaneswar: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low pressure system over the northwest neighbouring Westcentral Bay of Bengal is predicted to bring heavy to extremely severe rains to Odisha until September 21.
The statement said, "The system is predicted to move northwestward towards the coast of Odisha and become more pronounced throughout the following 24 hours."
On September 20, there is a chance that one or two locations in Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, and Koraput will have heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) during that time. During this time, there have also been a few locations in Gajapati, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Khordha, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Balangir, and Bargarh that have received a yellow warning for severe rainfall (7 to 11 cm).
On September 19 and 20, squally weather with gusty surface winds of up to 50 kmph is expected over deep sea areas in the northwest adjacent to the west-central Bay of Bengal, as well as along and off the coast of Odisha and the northwest adjacent to the Bay of Bengal. Fishermen have been warned against exploring deep-water regions.
