Journalist chained to hospital bed, Nilagiri IIC transferred

Balasore: The Nilagiri police station IIC Draupadi Das has been transferred to the Police District Headquarters amid rising protests over the chaining of a journalist to a hospital bed.

Nilagiri IIC and Probing Officer Subarna Behera have been sent to Police District Headquarters till the investigation into the incident of leg-cuffing a journalist to a hospital bed is completed, according to IG, Eastern Range (in-charge) Narasingha Bhol, who is investigating the case.

After his condition deteriorated, Lokanath Dalei, a journalist for a local news channel, was sent to the ICU.

According to sources, IIC Draupadi Das of the Nilagiri police station ordered the journalist to be legcuffed and taken to the hospital bed. Dalei was taken to the hospital after the IIC allegedly assaulted him in the police station, where he had been summoned in connection with the suspected abuse and assault of a Home Guard.
