Bhubaneswar: Ashwini Das, BDO, Jaleswar, was arrested by Odisha Vigilance on Sunday for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Over Rs 5.07 crore worth of assets were discovered during the raid at six locations, including 24 plots in prime Cuttack and Kendrapada locations with a market value of Rs 76 lakh, two palatial buildings each worth over Rs 1 crore, three SUVs, a hatchback car, three two-wheelers, over 1 kg gold and 3.632 silver ornaments, plus Rs 1.7 lakh, according to an official release.

In addition, he operated a brick factory. The Vigilance evaluated the value of its equipment because it was not working.

In 1995, Das started as a Junior Assistant in the Agriculture Department. In 2015, he was elevated to the ORS and assigned to Kutra (Sundargarh), Niali (Cuttack), Raghunathpur (Jagatsinghpur), Dolipur (Jajpur), and Jatani (Khurdha). In the year 2020, he was promoted to OAS and assigned to the positions of Tehsildar, Tangi, BDO, Kendrapada, and BDO, Jaleswar (Balasore).
