Increase in COVID cases, government to issue new guidelines
Bhubaneswar: The state government indicated on Tuesday that it is prepared to deal with the COVID issue, despite the infection's slow spread.
Bijay Mohapatra, director of Health Services, told reporters that, in comparison to other states, COVID transmission in Odisha started late and may worsen in the following days.
He said that when the infection rate was low in recent months, Khurda district accounted for over half of all cases in the state, and that the rate has since been maintained. However, in the most recent period, there has been a spike in Sambalpur and Sundargarh. He said that the spike could spread to other districts in the following days.
However, the government is prepared to combat the epidemic, and new rules will be published if necessary, Mohapatra said, adding that people should follow government protocols like as wearing face masks and avoiding crowding in public areas, as in past periods.
