Dutee Chand faces suspension after sprinter tests positive for prohibitive substance

Bhubaneswar: Ace sprinter from Odisha Dutee Chand was handed a provisional suspension on Wednesday after testing positive for prohibited anabolic steroids.
The ‘A’ sample of the 26-year-old athlete, which was collected out-of-competition on December 5 last year, has tested positive for ‘andarine’, ‘ostarine’ and ‘ligandrol’, news reports said quoting National Anti-doping Agency (NADA).
"I am writing to notify you that your sample A was tested at the NDTL (National Dope Testing Laboratory) in accordance with the protocol outlined in WADA's (World Anti-Doping Agency) International Standard of Laboratories and was returned with negative analytical findings," the letter stated.
It also forewarned Dutee of the potential penalties and disciplinary procedure.
Dutee will be unable to compete in the 2023 Asian Games in China, which were already postponed due of the COVID pandemic. The athlete, on the other hand, has the option of requesting a sample B test.
"I am totally unaware of this. Nobody has given me any information about any positive tests. I can't move forward without knowing the specifics. "I'll have to look into where the test was conducted and then take appropriate action," Dutee was quoted as saying.
She further stated that the letter circulating on social media is a forgery because it lacks a memo number and an official signature, and that it was intended to smear her reputation.
The sprinter, along with Dhanalakshmi Sekar, Hima Das, and Archana Suseendran, presently owns the national record in the 100m sprint and the 4*100m relay sprint. At the 2018 Asian Games, she finished second in both the 100m and 200m races.
