Bhubaneswar: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the depression over south Chhattisgarh is likely to weaken over the course of the next 12 hours.

"The depression over south Chhattisgarh moved nearly north-northwestwards with a speed of 18 kmph during the previous six hours and lay centred at 5.30 am over south Chhattisgarh and adjacent southeast Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha, about 95 km south-southeast of Gondia (Vidarbha) and 185 km southeast of Seoni" (Madhya Pradesh). The IMD stated in its morning bulletin that it is likely to move nearly north-westward and gradually weaken over the course of the next 12 hours.

Squally weather will continue to dominate in the coastal zones, according to senior meteorologist Uma Shankar Das. The wind speed this morning was 15 to 16 km in Bhubaneswar, 35 to 36 km in Puri, and 16 to 17 km in Paradip, according to the man.

As a result, the waves will continue to be rough, and fishermen have been warned not to go out until September 13, he said.

Although the intensity of the rain will lessen, Das warned that it will still be quite heavy in some areas of interior Odisha, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Jajpur.

He added that Jajpur had received a maximum of 90 mm of rain over the previous 24 hours. The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack received 42.8 mm and 34.4 mm respectively till 8.30 am.

Prior to this, the IMD had issued a yellow warning for heavy rain (7 to 11 cm) at isolated locations in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sambalpur, Nuapada, Bargarh, Sonepur, Balangir, Boudh, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal over the next 24 hours.

Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) will continue at isolated places in Balangir, Kalahandi, Sonepur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Deogarh, Nuapada, and Keonjhar on September 13.
