Cyber fraudster create fake WhatsApp account of Odisha Chief Secretary

Bhubaneswar: After it was discovered that a fraudster was impersonating Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra's photo on his WhatsApp profile to solicit money from individuals, the Odisha Chief Secretary's office warned the public to exercise caution.
The Chief Secretary's office reported that a cell number (9315641784) was soliciting payments using the image of the chief secretary, Suresh Chandra Mahapatra, and asking for money transfers.
"We want to let people know that the Chief Secretary does not use any such number and he never requests anyone to remit money to any account or pay any bills on his behalf," the statement continued.
People were urged by the office of the Chief Secretary to be vigilant and to call the police if they received such texts.
Additionally, it warned, "we urge people to be on the lookout for such social media messages coming from accounts displaying photographs of administrators, ministers, or well-known individuals."
In order to defraud individuals, online scammers have created a phoney WhatsApp account in the name of the commissioner of Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC).
A WhatsApp account was created with the phone number 9065035805 and the image of BeMC Commissioner J Sonal.
In the past, scammers used the name of Ganjam district Collector Dibyajyoti Parida to create a bogus WhatsApp account.
