Chief secretary of Odisha orders vaccination drives in colleges
Bhubaneswar: Due to a sharp increase in instances, Odisha Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra ordered officials to conduct COVID-19 immunisation programmes in colleges and other higher education facilities throughout the state on Thursday.
Mahapatra gave a hybrid high-level meeting at the Lok Seva Bhawan an overview of the COVID situation in the state. He gave orders to all Collectors and relevant departments to maintain vigilance and vaccinate adults on a war footing.
Additionally, he gave them instructions to increase testing, implement a 24-hour COVID helpline, and enforce COVID-appropriate conduct in public settings.
The Odisha government has accelerated its planning for the 75-day special drive, intended to increase uptake of COVID precaution doses, which will begin on Friday as part of the government's Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The Center has decided to give free booster shots of the COVID vaccine to all in the 18-59 age group at government vaccination centres.
"2,500 immunisation centres will offer free booster doses. We do not have enough vaccines in store, and the Center will be informed of this, said Health and Family Welfare Director Bijay Panigrahi on Thursday, despite the fact that there are enough medical professionals to deliver booster doses to beneficiaries.
