Bhubaneswar: Near the unit-VIII area of Bhubaneswar, the special task force (STF) of the Odisha crime branch confiscated about 2 kg of brown sugar, valued at about Rs 2 crore, and detained two drug dealers in connection with this, according to police on Tuesday.

Before the report was submitted, no one knew who the drug dealers were.

The STF squad caught up with the accused pair this afternoon in the city's vicinity of unit-VIII area based on intelligence input. Approximately 2 kg of brown sugar and other items incriminating the drug dealers were found by the STF team during the search.

According to officials, the accused individuals were detained and will be brought before the court for possessing such illegal brown sugar but were unable to present any documentation or authorisation for their possession.

According to reports, the accused couple came from the Balasore district with the illegal substances.

According to an STF officer, a case has been filed against the accused pair under section 21(c)/29 of the NDPS Act 1985, and additional investigation is in progress.

Since 2020, the STF has arrested more than 144 drug dealers and seized more than 55 kg of brown sugar, 202 grammes of cocaine, more than 93 quintals of ganja, and 750 grammes of opium.
