Bikram Arukha files Odisha Assembly speaker post

Bhubaneswar: Former minister and BJD MLA from Bhanjanagar Bikram Keshari Arukh filed his nomination for Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly on Friday.

Dasharathi Satapathy, the Assembly Secretary, received the nomination papers from him. The election for Speaker of the House will take place on June 13th.

Since Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik asked all of his ministers to quit on June 4 and a new council of 21 ministers was sworn in on June 5, Arukh was widely expected to be the next Speaker. Arukh was a minister in the previous government.

Surjya Narayan Patro, the Speaker, also resigned on June 4. His son Biplab Patro, on the other hand, claims that his father resigned due to health reasons. "My father has major kidney problems as well as a serious bacterial infection in his left eye. He's being treated at Sum Ultimate Hospital," he claimed at the time.
