Bargarh: As the incumbent BJD easily retained the Padampur Assembly seat, party nominee Barsha Singh Bariha stated that she would focus on women's empowerment and carry on the development work begun by the Naveen Patnaik rule.

"I will work hard to meet the aspirations of the constituency's residents." My father had always placed a high value on education and had founded Padampur Women's College. There was a plan to build another college, but it was stalled. "I intend to handle all local issues while focusing on education," she stated.

Barsha defeated former BJP MLA Pradip Purohit by 42,679 votes. She received 1,20,672 votes, or more over half of the total 2,09,309 votes voted in Padampur, whereas Purohit received 78,034. Satya Bhusan Sahu, a veteran Congress leader and three-time MLA from the constituency, lost his deposit despite receiving 3,594 votes.

Barsha is the oldest daughter of Bijaya Ranjan Singh Bariha, whose death prompted the byelection.
