Puri: On Tuesday, Union Railways and Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw promised that 5G services would be available in Odisha soon.

After it was pointed out that there was not a single city or town from Odisha on the list of 20-25 cities and towns where 5G would be rolled out by the year's end, Vaishnaw provided the assurance to media after participating in Yoga Day festivities in Puri.

The state would acquire 5G services in the next phase, according to the ministry.

Tusharkanti Behera, the state's IT minister, stated, however, that no official communication from the Centre has yet been received in this respect.

"It is really upsetting to discover that none of Odisha's cities or towns have been included in the list of locations chosen for 5G implementation." We'll have a talk about that. But, because Odisha is set to become an IT centre, we are optimistic that the state will be covered by the scheme in the future," he said.

He claimed that despite commitments from the Centre, districts such as Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, and Gajapati still lack telecom services in the state.
