In a tragic incident, 17 people fell ill after consuming spurious liquor in Ganjam, according to reports on Tuesday. They reportedly became sick after drinking poorly fermented country-made liquor.

The affected individuals, all from Jenapur village, were admitted to Chikiti Medical Centre. Five of them are in critical condition and have been transferred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. Symptoms included severe vomiting.

The excise department has responded to the situation and is conducting searches in Moundpur, Jainapur, and Karbalua villages. No arrests have been made as the police continue their investigation. Chikiti MLA visited the Medical Center to assess the situation, and detailed reports are awaited.
