Rayagada: While it was being illegally transported in a van, the police in the Tikiri area of Odisha's Rayagada district recovered a large amount of foreign alcohol and detained one individual.

Sources claim that Y Mohan Babu, the car's driver, was detained by the police on Sunday night as a result of a special operation.

Additionally, the car, which apparently belonged to a local BJD representative, was seized. The van was unlawfully carrying over 360 litres of imported alcohol.

A police team was conducting a patrol near Totaguda Square on the orders of Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of Tikiri Police Station, Debadatta Mallick, when the vehicle was stopped.

The driver of the car failed to produce any legitimate documentation about the purchase and transit of the alcohol. He was unable to provide a convincing explanation for his whereabouts.

Beer cans stored in 30 cartons were discovered by the police when they brought the car to the police station. The boxes contained 720 500 ml beer cans, according to sources, who also indicated that more investigation is ongoing.
