Bhubaneswar: Archana Joshi, the general manager of the South Eastern Railway, was fired nearly a month after the horrific triple-train accident in Odisha's Balasore.

According to a PTI report, the move comes just days after the Railways announced that it would not make the Commission of Railway Safety (CRS) probe report public in order to avoid interfering with the CBI's ongoing investigation.

According to sources, the CRS suggested in its report that the accident occurred due to human error because the officials on duty failed to follow standard operating procedures for train operations.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved Anil Kumar Mishra's appointment as General Manager of the Southern Eastern Railway.

Joshi worked as an additional member in tourism and catering, the Ministry of Railways, and the Railway Board prior to joining South Eastern Railway as general manager. She was the first female IRTS officer to be promoted to the position of general manager.

On Thursday, the South Eastern Circle CRS AM Chowdhury, who was investigating the accident, submitted his report to the Railway Board. According to a senior official, the Railways will consider both the CRS report and the CBI investigation when forming an overall assessment of the incident.

On June 2, three trains collided in Odisha's Balasore district, killing 293 people and injuring over 1,000 others. The Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express was traveling at full speed when it entered the passing loop instead of the main line near the Bahanaga Bazar station and collided with a stationary goods train. The Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express collided with the derailed coaches of the Coromandel Express on the adjacent line, causing some of its bogies to jump tracks.

Meanwhile, 29 bodies of the 81 victims of the Balasore train accident were identified earlier on Thursday at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
