Bhubaneswar is set to receive a virtual inventory of its infrastructure and assets.

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to create a virtual inventory of all existing infrastructure and assets in response to the rapid expansion of the capital city. This virtual inventory will consist of a GIS-based digital map capturing data of roads, drains, utilities, including the underground OFC cable network of Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL), utility pipes of Watco, transmission cables, electric poles, telephone poles, sewerage lines, manholes, transformers, bore wells, water bodies, religious places, historical structures, bus stops, hospitals, health centers, educational institutions, post offices, police stations, banks, and tourist spots.
The digital inventory aims to enable better planning for future projects and minimize damage to existing infrastructure, particularly focusing on the underground utility infrastructure. The project will commence once the agency responsible is finalized.
In a related initiative, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has launched a survey of real estate projects and commercial establishments, with the support of city-based DYLIS Business Service Pvt Ltd, to address infrastructure gaps and work towards a more sustainable city. The survey, covering 556 villages in the periphery of Bhubaneswar, is expected to be completed by August 31st.
