Temple Priest Feared Drowned In Kusabhadra River in Puri

Puri: In Puri, Odisha, on Sunday, the overflowing Kusabhadra river is thought to have drowned a young temple priest.

The priest, named as Kabiraj Panda of Solapur Village under Gop Police Station, reportedly went to take a bath in Kusabhadra before beginning the worship of the deity of Maa Adangei Temple, according to family sources. Family members went in search of Kabiraj because the temple had not been opened and he had not gone home.

The family members rushed to the riverbanks and discovered his dead floating there after asking the townspeople for information about his whereabouts but receiving no response. They found Kabiraj's body and brought it home.

After being notified, a squad from the Gop police station visited the area and took the body into custody. The body has been sent for a post-mortem.

The post-mortem report will reveal Kabiraj's cause of death, according to the IIC of the police station.

Meanwhile, according to the family members, Kabiraj drowned in the river because it was swollen from recent heavy rains. The priest's wife and ageing mother remain.
