Speeding truck mows down two women in Jajpur

Jajpur: On Sunday, a speeding truck struck and killed two women from Bhubaneswar while travelling on the National Highway (NH) in the Jajpur district of Odisha.

Sources claim that the event happened as the women were travelling in an SUV to perform puja at the Biraja temple in Jajpur early in the morning. On NH 16, near a motel, the SUV's driver pulled over so he could get out and eat breakfast.

The SUV began to move since it was on a sloping surface and the driver had neither applied hand brake nor engaged gear. The two female passengers leaped from the back seat in a fright. A truck was approaching quickly when it ran over them. The locals hurried to take them to hospitals, but the women passed away there and then.

Local police responded quickly to the call and arrived on the scene to grab the remains. In this regard, they have filed a complaint.

The women were recognised by the police as Gitanjali and Sasmita Padhi, Sahid Nagar residents in Bhubaneswar.
