Silver Jubilee batch students felicitated at IIMC's Odisha alumni meet

Bhubaneswar: The Indian Institute of Mass Communication Alumni Association (IIMCAA) has requested that all of its alumni be covered by a collective health insurance plan.

This was proposed during the Indian Institute of Mass Communication's 10th Annual Alumni Meet – Koo Connections 2022 (Odisha chapter) and 6th Alumni Awards - IFFCO IIMCAA Awards on Sunday in Bhubaneswar.

Dr. Mrinal Chatterjee, Director, IIMC, Dhenkanal; Dadan Viswakarma, Governing Council Member from the Central Committee; Sanjay Sahoo, President, Odisha Chapter; and Jyoti Prakash Mohapatra, General Secretary, attended the ceremony.

Dr. Chatterjee emphasised the importance of forging better bonds among alumni to aid in times of need. Ritesh Verma, a founding member of the IIMCAA, spoke about the difficulties faced by journalists during COVID and advised all members to make a strong case for group insurance coverage.

Sarada Lahangir, a senior journalist, was named Journalist of the Year in Publishing for her report on ordinary people affected by the Maoist threat, with a special focus on women and children.

Jyotismita Nayak won the Indian Language Reporter of the Year (Broadcasting) award for her reporting about local farmers and environmentalists in Jajpur's Kalinga Nagar.

As part of the Silver Jubilee (1996-97) celebrations, senior journalists Jajati Karan, Sharda Lahangir, Tapan Swain, Sobha Surin, Pabitra Mohan Senapati, Sangita Agarwal, and Pradeepta Tripathy were honoured.

At the event, more than 150 alumni reconnected. On April 23, another meet will be held at the IIMC campus in Dhenkanal, where the scholarship for digital media will be granted from the current class.
