Sambalpur: On Saturday at the District Headquarters Hospital in Sambalpur, Odisha, a mother gave birth to conjoined twin girls.

Rabina Kumari's twins have distinct heads, but their bodies are linked from the belly to the neck.

Doctors have recommended Rabina and her husband, a Rengali 'panipuri' vendor, to transport the neonates to Burla or Cuttack for advanced treatment.

The parents, who are from Bihar but have lived in Rengali for the past 20 years, claim they cannot afford the sophisticated treatment since they are poor.

They have requested assistance from the state government and the private sector.

After a marathon 11-hour procedure, Jaga and Kalia from Melupada hamlet in Kandhamal district were separated in October 2017 at AIIMS, New Delhi.

They have a condition called Craniopagus parasiticus, which is a rare congenital ailment.

Kalia died of septicaemia in November of last year while seeking treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
