Sundergarh: On Friday, Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra reviewed the field implementation of many projects in the district.

During a visit to the district, Mahapatra travelled to the sites where barrages would be built across the Ib River and gave the engineers the required orders to speed up the construction process.

The chief secretary then paid a visit to the Sundargarh Medical College and Hospital. A committee from the Medical Council of India (MCI) has previously visited the university and evaluated its medical college infrastructure.

Mahapatra also examined the operation of the modern integrated traffic management system command centre, which was recently established in Sundargarh to improve road safety and reduce criminal activity.

The chief secretary told reporters after his visit that the development of the barrages had been a long-standing demand of the district's residents. These would be built in two locations, with each barrage capable of meeting the drinking water demands of residents within a 5-6 km radius. He also mentioned that the barrages will help farmers with irrigation.

Following the MCI's acceptance of the medical college, Mahapatra said, an assessment of the student intake capacity, the number of professors to be appointed, and the number of beds to be accommodated would be made. The government would then determine the year in which students would be admitted, he added.
