PM Modi will attend a Quad Summit hosted by Joe Biden.
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will go to the United States next week to attend the first-ever in-person meeting of leaders from the "Quad" countries of Australia, India, Japan, and the United States, which will be hosted by US President Joe Biden.
For the September 24 summit in Washington, Prime Minister Modi will be accompanied by Australia's Scott Morrison, Japan's Yoshihide Suga, and Vice President Biden.
In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said, "The Leaders will assess progress made since their first virtual Summit on March 12 and discuss regional problems of shared concern."
“They will examine the Quad Vaccine project, which was introduced in March this year, as part of their ongoing efforts to contain the COVID-19 pandemic,” the statement continued.
The vaccinations initiative at the first summit came to a halt after India, the world's largest vaccine producer, was hit by a catastrophic and virulent second wave of COVID-19 infections, and vaccine shipments were halted.
According to New Delhi, the meeting will cover crucial and emerging technologies, connectivity and infrastructure, cyber security, maritime security, humanitarian aid, climate change, and education.
President Biden's reputation has taken a hit as a result of the disorderly withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan.
