Sambalpur: In the Sambalpur district of Odisha's Karanjula village, a man was detained after six snakes and four chameleons were taken from him by forest officials.

A team of officers from the Sadar and Town ranges of the Sambalpur forest division visited the guy's home and found six snakes, including three cobras, as well as four chameleons, according to a forest official. The man, identified as Ramachandra Rana (31), was then arrested.

The accused, who has a YouTube channel, used to illegally capture snakes and other reptiles and film them in order to draw visitors to his movies.

According to in-charge assistant conservator of forest (ACF), Sadar Range, Manu Ashok Bhat, "He used to upload the videos on the channel in violation of the IT Act, 2000, and YouTube has been requested to erase the recordings and take immediate action."

According to the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, both of the animals that the accused had collected were considered Schedule-II animals, making it illegal to own or hunt any of them.

An investigation is also being conducted to determine Rana's role in the illegal wildlife trade, and a case has been filed in accordance with several provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972.
