Odisha: ED attaches assets worth Rs 2.16 cr of ex-MP, 2 former MLAs
Bhubaneswar: According to sources, the Nava Diganta Capital Services Ltd. chit fund company's moveable and immovable assets worth Rs 2.16 crore were attached on Thursday by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The connected assets include two plots in Narendrapur, in the Puri district of Odisha, and Kaipadar, in the Khurda district, both valued Rs 2 crore, as well as Rs 16 lakh in 48 bank accounts.
Nava Diganta Capital Services Ltd is being investigated by the ED in accordance with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed two chargesheets against the chit fund company.
Under the guise of offering higher interest to the depositors, Nava Diganta Capital Services Ltd is accused of soliciting deposits from individuals by issuing redeemable preference shares and non-convertible debentures.
Without permission from the RBI and the Securities and Exchange Board of India, the business is accused of issuing money receipts and certificates (SEBI).
