Married Woman Commits Suicide After Lover Tonsured By Villagers

Berhampur: In the Ganjam area of Odisha, a married woman allegedly killed herself after a young guy was tonsured by locals for having extramarital relations.
According to sources, the youth from the adjoining Bagalpur village was seen by the residents of Tentuliapalli under Khallikote police station heading to the woman's home late on Thursday night. The villagers entered the woman's home on the suspicion of an unlawful relationship between them and forcibly removed the young man to the road.
The youth was brutally beaten by the locals, who then convened a committee to determine how to punish him. The youth was tonsured and led through the village wearing a garland of slippers in accordance with the resolution made at the meeting.
Later, allegedly as a result of the young person's humiliation, the woman ingested poison to end her life. She was taken in an ambulance to the community health centre (CHC) in Khallikote, where the medical staff pronounced her dead.
Police responded to the area after being notified and freed the young man from the locals. Additionally, they have filed a case in this regard.
According to the sources, the woman has two kids while her husband has left the country to work as a day labourer.
