Malkangiri: After more than 20 students travelled 20 kilometres to meet Malkangiri Collector Vishal Singh regarding recent "mess" in their hostel, the headmaster of Mariwada Ashram School was transferred, and two assistant teachers, Ranjita Behera and Srikumar Dora, were suspended.

District Welfare Officer Krupasindhu Behera announced on Monday that Headmaster Bhagban Nayak had been relocated to Badpada in Swabhiman Anchal of the Chitrakonda block.

On September 3, more than 20 school boarders met with the collector and voiced their complaints about a number of abnormalities in their dorm. The superintendent of the hostel was accused by the pupils of selling rice near the school. They also claimed that an instructor was forcing students to perform odd duties around the building.

Behera told the reporters that a team made up of the district education officer, panchayat officer, and civil supplies officer will look into the claims.

Sabitri Mondal, the headmistress of Kolaganda Ashram School in Podia block, has also been suspended following the illness-related deaths of two dormitory residents. The cook/attendant Jogi Madkami has been fired from her position, along with the matron Manika Sikdar and Podia welfare extension officer Bharat Guru.
