Close shave for 20 patients as bus catches fire in Nayagarh

Bhubaneswar: Twenty patients had a lucky escape after their bus caught fire after hitting a road divider in Falpadu, Odisha's Nayagarh district, in the early hours of Monday.

The accident occurred around 5 a.m. near the Banigochha police station while the bus was transporting patients from the Sai Seva Sadan Hospital in Khudi, Khurda district, to Harbhanga, Boudh district. After hitting the divider, the vehicle caught fire.

After being notified, Dasapalla fire personnel rushed to the scene and extinguished the flames. All patients were rescued and transported to the health centers in Dasapalla and Banigochha. Their health status is described as stable.

The bus driver and a passenger fled the scene shortly after the accident.

According to preliminary findings, the driver lost control of the wheels due to heavy fog in the area. A police investigation is currently underway.
