BJD MLA Soumya Patnaik doubtful of PSO
Bhubaneswar: On Saturday, a day after Odisha's Leader of Opposition (LoP) Jaynarayan Mishra gave up his personal security officer (PSO), BJD MLA Soumya Ranjan Patnaik said that concerns about security officers in the aftermath of Health Minister Naba Das's assignment by dismissed ASI Gopal Das are anything but normal.
"The killing has come as a shock to me," he said, stating that an influential leader being shot by a cop was unacceptable in a democracy. I've been assigned a PSO as well, and he, too, has a gun. What if he turns out to be a Gopal Das?"
He did, however, claim that Jayanarayan's decision to return the PSO was motivated by politics.
"A lot of conspiracy theories are circulating; it is therefore critical for police to determine the exact reason for the murder as soon as possible and silence these gossips," he said.
In response to DGP Sunil Bansal's statement that no one could have predicted the minister's death except Lord Jagannath, Soumya Ranjan said he should now fervently pray to Him to reveal the truth behind the murder. "It will also save ADG Crime Branch Arun Bothra the trouble of investigating the case," he joked.
The BJD MLA, on the other hand, claimed that not believing in the police would lead to anarchy. "One exception is Gopal Das. Not all cops are bad. "By resolving the case in 10-15 days, the police should set a precedent," he added.
