Asiatic Lioness Rewa Gives Birth To Quintuplets At Odisha’s Nandankanan Zoo, Two Cubs Die

Bhubaneswar: Two babies died on Wednesday, a day after Asiatic lioness Riwa gave birth to four kittens at Odisha's capital's Nandankanan Zoo.
According to authorities, the other two cubs are receiving specialized medical care. They have been maintained in incubator chambers and are constantly monitored by CCTV.
Because the lioness was a first-time mother, she couldn't care for or feed the pups. As a result, the cubs were separated from mama and transferred to a foster care center five hours after their birth.
The first cub perished soon after delivery, but the second died this morning. "The crew is keeping a close eye on lioness Riwa as she becomes a mother for the first time," Deputy Director Sanjit Kumar informed the media.
Riwa became pregnant after mating with the Asiatic lion Jeet.
With these arrivals, Nandankanan now possesses a total of 23 lions, including 13 Asiatic, one African, seven hybrid, and two pups.
In a rare occurrence, a lioness at the zoo gave birth to quintuplets in November of last year. Rupa, a white tigress, gave birth to three cubs on January 7 at Nandankanan Zoological Park.
