Bhubaneswar: Due to the current heatwave, the Odisha government has directed that summer vacation be preponed in all state schools.

All government, private, and aided schools up to Class XII will be closed beginning April 21. "Due to the current heatwave conditions, summer vacation for schools (from Class I to XII), both public and private, will begin on April 21, 2023." "In due course, the School and Mass Education Department will notify the date of reopening," a CMO release said on Thursday.

It also stated that a detailed notification in this regard would be issued soon.

Summer vacation typically begins in the first week of May.

The state has been experiencing severe heatwave conditions, with temperatures reaching 43 degrees Celsius in 11 places on Wednesday. Baripada in Mayurbhanj had the highest temperature of 44.5 degrees Celsius.

The government had previously closed schools for five days (April 12 to 16) and again for two days (April 19 to 20) due to the extreme heat.
