Patient among two killed as ambulance meets with accident

Bhawanipatna: Early on Monday, an ambulance slammed into a tree in the Junagarh neighbourhood of Odisha's Kalahandi district, killing a patient who was a lady and another person.

Sumitra Durga, a patient from Kapurmal village inside the boundaries of Jaipatna police station limits, was reportedly being transported by the 108 ambulance to the District Headquarters Hospital in Bhawanipatna when the accident occurred close to Mahichala.

The mishap claimed the lives of the 55-year-old patient, who was apparently experiencing diarrhoea, and Dambur Sabar, a member of the emergency service vehicle's staff. Three of the patient's family members who were in the ambulance got hurt.

Following a report, a team of police officers sped to the village and took the ambulance's passengers to the hospital, where two of them were pronounced dead and the others received medical attention.

The car has been confiscated by police, who have also started an inquiry.
