Odisha cop caught taking Rs 30k bribe

Dhenkanal: Odisha Vigilance sleuths allegedly caught Malaya Nayak, a sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Hindol in Odisha's Dhenkanal district, receiving a Rs 30,000 bribe on Wednesday.
While taking bribe money from a stone mine leaseholder for permitting free passage of his trucks, Nayak was detained at Karanda Chhak.
Following this, Cuttack Vigilance filed a complaint under Section 7 of the PC Amendment Act 2018 and conducted simultaneous searches on Nayak's properties in six locations across the state of Orissa, including Bhubaneswar, Puri, Angul, Dhenkanal, and Sambalpur.

Nayak is suspected of collecting bribes in cash and through technological channels like as ATM deposits, Phone Pe, and Google Pay, all of which are currently being investigated. According to an official release, a team from Odisha Vigilance's cyber department and banking consultant is investigating the financial activities.
Details of bank accounts and investments, as well as insurance and other programmes, are being checked.
Soon after her husband was caught collecting bribe, Nayak's wife Rita Mahapatra left from the Hindol residential quarter on a two-wheeler with one brief case and a carry bag, according to the Vigilance sleuths. The locked quarter is being searched in the presence of an executive magistrate. The announcement noted that efforts are being made to locate her.
