Cuttack: Odisha excise officers confiscated Rs 80 lakh in cash and detained one person during a crackdown near Tangi Toll gate in Cuttack on Friday in a crackdown on ganja trafficking.
According to authorities, a team of Cuttack excise officials conducted a raid near Tangi's Toll Plaza, suspected ganja trafficking, and confiscated Rs 80 lakh cash from a man known as Sukumar Sahoo. He was purportedly traveling from Cuttack to West Bengal on a private bus.
"One of my relatives offered me Rs 80 lakh to give to someone in West Bengal," the accused told the journalists.
Meanwhile, Cuttack Sadar Inspector claimed, "As part of the ganja crackdown, we examined the private bus and captured Sahoo with Rs 80 lakh cash wrapped in four paper packets."
According to the preliminary investigation, Sahoo received the money from his brother-in-law, who owns a jewelry store in Cuttack. The suspects had previously visited with Rs 50 lakh and Rs 60 lakh cash, according to the police.
Sahoo was held for additional investigation to see whether he received the money after selling any illegal substances such as ganja, brown sugar, or narcotic narcotics.
