Four killed over comment passing in Berhampur

Berhampur: In a group conflict over passing filthy comments, four members of a family were allegedly slain in a locality under Hinjili police limits in Odisha's Ganjam district.

Sambhu Swain, Pandura Swain, Raja Swain, all sons of Mangulu Swain, and their nephew Chandan Swain of Narendrapur village have been identified as the deceased.

They were attacked at 11.30 a.m. by a group of six people using iron rods and lathis near a fast food kiosk managed by Sambhu in Pitala Chhak, according to sources. While the three brothers died on the spot, Chandan died in the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur from his injuries. During the brawl, one member of the opposing gang was injured.

After a couple fell off their bike in front of the fast-food kiosk about 10 p.m., Pandura allegedly made some offensive remarks to a youth from Ramchandrapur who was attempting to rescue an injured woman. This resulted in a violent exchange of insults and, later, a conflict when six people arrived on bikes and attacked them as they were closing the stand.

Police have detained two people for questioning in this case, according to the sources.
