Keonjhar: The mother elephant and her calf were killed by arrows after their carcasses were discovered inside the Kalapat reserve forest beneath the Telkoi forest range in Odisha's Keonjhar district.

According to authorities, a broken arrow was discovered during the autopsy of the 25-year-old female elephant's body, which had pierced her stomach and struck the uterus.

As a result, the female elephant gave birth to a deceased calf. It had perished while still in the womb.

It is worth noting that when some residents discovered the remains in the forest near Kuliapal on Monday, they promptly notified the Forest Department. Telkoi Ranger Shivaji Mohan Rao and Keonjhar DFO Dhamdhere Dhanraj Hanumant proceeded to the location after being told by the team.

Despite massive amounts poured into elephant preservation, personnel monitoring elephant movement have been unable to notice the bad odour while patrolling, according to reports.
