Balasore: On Monday morning, three people were killed and four were gravely injured in a series of accidents involving a tanker, an SUV, and a car near Tarini Chhak on NH 16 under Simulia police limits in Odisha's Balasore district.

Shankar Rao and his wife Parvati Rao have been recognised as two of the deceased.

According to sources, the victims were travelling in two cars from West Bengal to Puri when an oil tanker collided with the SUV, which subsequently collided with the car between 6 and 6.30 a.m. Three SUV occupants perished as a result of the crash, while four others suffered significant injuries and were sent to Soro Hospital for treatment.

According to witnesses, the tragedy occurred after the tanker's tyres ruptured, and two persons, including the driver of the SUV, died on the spot, while the other died at Soro hospital. They had to be hauled from the wreckage of the automobile.

Vehicle traffic on this section was disrupted for some time after the accident.

The incident is being investigated by police.
